West Ham United were on fire at the beginning of this season, and they were in the top four. The main reason for their consistent performance was the performance of Antonio and Said Benrahma. This duo was on fire. In August, the blistering form of Antonio and Benrahma helped the team to score ten goals from just three games in the league. The team scored four goals consecutively in two games.
Both of them were also nominated for the Player of the Month award, and Antonio won it with having four goals and three assists to his name that month.
But after a couple of months, West Ham’s performance dipped a bit, and they were dropped from the top four. Antonio and Benrahma were not performing as expected, and it created a headache for David Moyes. They dropped points against Brentford, Manchester City, Southampton, Wolves, Brighton and Arsenal.
It was high time someone should have stepped up to bring West Ham back to winning ways. That was the time when Jarrod Bowen stepped up for the team. In 2022, his performance has been impeccable, and he is the leading player who brings the change when needed.
On the right flank, he is always a threat to the opponents and the recent matches, he was able to become more dangerous. David Moyes trusts him greatly, and he has returned the trust through goals.
“It’s all about progressing,” Bowen says. “Whether that is assists or goals, they are the main two things you look at as a winger. Mo Salah is the perfect example, the goals he scores and the assists he gets since he joined Liverpool. He is definitely one that I look at.”
In the latest match against Leicester City in the Premier League, Jarrod Bowen made it seven goals in seven games for West Ham after his first-half strike against the Foxes. He also assisted Craig Dawson’s goal in the added time.
Bowen’s performance against Leicester made it 20 goal contributions in 29 starts in all competitions this season with 12 goals and eight assists, the most of any English player in the Premier League.
His recent performance has made him a target in the market for the top European clubs. The leading club that is behind him is Liverpool, and his recent statement about Salah also made the rumours a bit stronger. We should keep our eyes on him in the summer as some top clubs will bargain to buy him.
Gareth Southgate will indeed watch his recent performances. No English forward is playing on a great form like him. So, there are high chances that he will get his first call for the England National Team for the upcoming international games in the next month.
